Hi all involved currently in the book.

I had a meeting at the printing house Efekt (http://www.drukarniaefekt.pl/) here in Warsaw and figured our a quote for the following specification:

format B5 (240x168mm)
glued

300 pages b/w 1/1
16 pages colour 4/4 (anywhere in the book)
paper Zing Bright Book 60g

cover colour 4/0 + dispersion lacquer
paper Cyclus Offset 250g

1000 copies - 8,800 PLN (ca 2100 €)
500 copies - 6,300 PLN (ca 1500 €)

prices + VAT 5% if we have an ISBN number or 23% if we don't
Prices can be still a bit negotiated if necessary.

Papers are not recycled but those are much more expensive here in Poland (probably 1000 € more in the budget) and there's not a big choice.

The prices are higher than I expected and definitely higher than what for example pixart printing is offering. I'm particularly concerned with the quality of the paper - I find 60 g too thin and also a problem not to have it recycled.

I would like to hear the opinion of @Ricardo (just added him to the platform).

Also would be good to know if @François has some news on publishers that would like to publish the book.

Can you send me the link you are using for quotes? I kind of doubt it can be much cheaper than this (on the polish pixart page I get higher prices and I don't see much choice for papers there).

p.s. I checked the paper personally - it is a nice one and images also print well. Btw it was Ricardo who suggested thinner paper during our last meeting.

And please, show some appreciation for me traveling to the printing house and spending time looking at papers and negotiating prices. I would like this process to be more friendly.

I do appreciate a lot Wojtek, I just don't have the skills or emotional intelligence for showing it ;)

Obviously it is much better than we find a print with a personal contact and not something over internet. The quotes I got from pixartprinting might actually be higher yes - it was 2000 € for 500 books on 115 g/m2 paper, but with 300 pages on A5 format (not B5) and no color pages.

How do we get an ISBN number for the book? Does this cost something?

The 1000 books offer is definitely better and would get us a better return, but it goes a bit over our budget (especially with the +5% +ISBN). We would need to check with all partners (but esp. HEB who is financing the book) if we could get something more there to have the 1000 books.

Some *Constructive Feedback* skills can be very useful too. I even conducted a training about it recently so I can share some thoughts next time we meet;)

If HEB works with books they should have access to ISBN numbers. As far as I know they don't cost anything.

The price at Efekt is about 2200 € with VAT but I can probably negotiate it down once we have more concrete info.

Thanks for that Wojtek, will be very happy to hear your thoughts and experience on this! :)

Adding Fransuisse to the notifications, so that he tells us if they could organize the ISBN.

Negotiating down to 2000 € would be perfect, otherwise I'm certain that HEB or some partner can get some last coins out of the pocket ;)

Hello Wojtek and Gualter,

yes we have an ISBN list

for C.E.R.I.S.E.S.

(research center of the  pedagogical department of HEB).

We coud certainly use it if we mention

our edition name and number.

Concerning the price our budget was 2000 euros

as a contribution in whole for the book and it will be difficult

for us to go higher.

Please try to keep the price in those limits

or we will have problems for the payment.

All the best

François G.
