Results from Leipzig 2014

Proposals for the Transition

  • Urban Planning should foresee areas for planting local food (i.e. Apple trees on streets) (local level)
  • Subsidies for small scale ecological food production (EU Level)
  • Taxes for agroindustry (EU level)
  • Collective land ownership & collective production and processing should have a better legal framework (national level)
  • Education should teach alternatives (society level)
  • Right to Land for small farmers (global level)

Visions for a degrowth society

  • Much less animal life-stock living in much better conditions
  • Produce locally which is possible and trade globally what is necessary
  • Direct connections between producers and consumers food sovereignty

Controversial questions

  • What degree of de-industrialisation should we aim at in agriculture?
  • Should markets continue to exist?
