September 10-19, 2016, at the “Heliotropon” Transition and Resilience Community Hub, Vlachia, Evia island, Greece. We would leave on 9 Sept and return on 20 Sept.     Cost? The grant will cover 80% of travel costs. 100% of accommodation and food costs in Greece is included. There is a participation fee of 30eur per person, to be paid to the Heliotropon Hub. Some scholarships might be available. Please don't let cost limitations stop you from applying if you are interested in this encounter!     What will we learn? We will participate in workshops and discussions about: off-grid communities, energy autonomy from renewable energy sources, natural housing, waste management, farming and agroecology, decision making, conflict resolution, and cooperative entrepreneurship. We will also have “culture nights” where each country will share some aspects of our culture, and share what alternative projects we are doing. If you are interested, please contact Gualter Barbas Baptista until August 10th. I will then contact all interested to further organize the logistics.Vlachia, Evoia island, Greece"Heliotropon" communitytrueDD/MM/YYYY

The web site is www.radicaltechnology.org: you can register there.

The main day is Saturday 3rd September, but there are also events on Friday 2nd and Sunday 4th, in the same location. See the web site for details.

The conference is inspired by the book Radical Technology, a collection of essays, drawings and interviews published in 1976. The word 'degrowth' was not invented then, but it was unashamedly Utopian, decentralist and 'low-tech'. The conference revisits the original ideas and asks how they look from today's perspective. Perhaps the key question is whether a change of strategy is required in the face of incipient environmental thresholds: is a high-tech emergency response now needed, and can this be combined with the need to limit the physical growth of the world economy?

The conference is held in the spirit of the 70s: although catalysed by battle-scarred veterans, everyone is a contributor.
